At Lapage we believe that physical education develops children’s knowledge, skills and understanding, so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities. These include dance, games, gymnastics, swimming and water safety, athletics and outdoor adventure activities.

Physical education promotes an understanding in children of their bodies in action. It involves thinking, selecting and applying skills, and it promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. Thus we enable the children to make informed choices about physical activity throughout their lives.

We use a variety of teaching and learning styles in PE lessons and other areas of the curriculum to meet the individual needs of all children at Lapage with the aim of ensuring that all children leave us with the skills, understanding and knowledge to lead a successful healthy life.

The Aims of Physical Education at Lapage are:

  • To provide a happy, enjoyable and secure environment where children are enthused about their own learning and skill acquisition.
  • To provide all children the opportunities to improve their performance of key physical skills as set out in the National Curriculum.
  • To ensure all children acquire the knowledge and understanding needed to lead a happy and healthy life now and in the future.
  • To use PE as a tool to develop children’s wider skills of resilience, problem solving, decision making and collaboration which in turn will assist children in making greater progress academically throughout the curriculum.
  • To create a culture of enjoyment and enthusiasm in relation to physical activity and healthy living.
  • To play a leading role in ensuring children, staff and parent’s take pride in the school and what we achieve through our celebration days and interschool sport competitions.
